Dermatologist Diagnosis - A Unique Clinical Model

Skin Patrol is the only organisation in the world to offer remote Dermatologist diagnosis for all patients with suspicious lesions.

Unlike other clinics who might offer dermatology trained GPs (diploma or certificate qualifications) Skin Patrol's clinical service provides the expertise of doctor who has completed an additional 6 years specialty training to become a Dermatolgist (skin specialist).

A teledermatology approach enables Skin Patrol to bring specialist diagnosis to individuals and communities who otherwise may not have access to such skills and services and it improves patient outcomes by reducing unnecessary excisions.

Skin Patrol programs are based on a unique clinical model. A highly skilled Medical Practitioner (Doctor) with a special interest in skin performs the onsite consultation. Any moles or lesions considered suspicious are digitally mapped and imaged and diagnosed remotely by our  Dermatologist.

Skin Patrol's reporting Dermatologist is Dr Martin Haskett, is a Director for the Royal Australasian College of Dermatologists (RACD), Director of Training Dermatology Trainees for the College of Dermatologists (Victorian Faculty) and visiting Specialist for the Victorian Melanoma Service.

Other benefits, unique to Skin Patrol include:

a) Medical Practitioners with a special interest in skin perform all onsite skin examinations
b) Digital imaging of all suspicious and difficult to monitor lesions
c) Body mapping and archiving of all suspicious lesions
d) No excisions or treatment onsite. All required treatment is referred to the patient's chosen Medical Practitioner, alternatively Skin Patrol can guide the patient to a suitable specialist or doctor if required
e) Digital print outs of imaged lesions are sent to individual and their doctor for future comparison for change
f) Dedicated Practice management team to follow-up patients ensuring prompt treatment is sought and pathology is reviewed

Why run a mobile skin check?
1. Too many people in Australia are being diagnosed with skin cancer too late

Australia has the highest incidence and mortality rates for melanoma, yet if diagnosed early cure rates are high.  Other forms of skin cancer, while rarely fatal, are still a significant medical problem.

Skin Patrol has gathered its statistical research on individuals we have diagnosed with malignant melanoma and 64% of those had never had a full body skin check.

2. Employees generally do not inititate their own skin checks

Skin Patrol's statistics show that for most employees, an onsite skin check is a convenient and easy way to commit and attend a medical consulation.

Our research shows that despite most employees being concerned about a particular spot or lesion, the overwhelming majority:

  • Have not had a skin check in the past year &
  • Have no intention of having a skin check in the next 12 months

Participation rates at worksites are regularly in excess of 80%

3.  It encourages employees to do their own skin checks

The Skin Patrol program sends out a strong positive message about the importance of checking one's skin and the early detection of skin cancer.  It helps to motivate systematic future checking by themselves quarterly and by a professional annually.

4. Skin Patrol's education and training program teaches employees what to look for

The early detection of skin cancer plays a major role in the success of beating the disease.  People need to be taught what to look for, as it is not something we instinctively know.

Education is aimed at changing people's behaviour and addressing the misconceptions many hold about the sun and skin cancer.

5. Skin Patrol's education and training program emphasises the need for constant sun protection practices

For many employers who do not implement the recommended sun safety and protection policies, on obstacle is the reluctance by outdoor workers to adhere to these changes. Our one-on-one education helps to emphasise the importance of protection and change employee behaviour.

6. Onsite clinics minimise worker downtime

Skin Patrol's dedicated project delivery team can schedule and coordinate your onsite appointments. The onsite team runs to time ensuring your personnel are back to work promptly.  The whole process should take an employee away from work no longer than 15-20 minutes.
